How do I play?

The game is played over six rounds (years) that alternate between fruitful years (rounds 1, 3, and 5) and dry years (rounds 2, 4, and 6).[1]
**Setup**
1. Place the board horizontally between players, with each player having their own side including storage, bakery, brewery, and upgrade slots.[2]
2. Create a common supply for five resource types: blue water, yellow wheat, brown barley, orange rye, and green hops tokens.[2]
3. Place the fields and river, which are shared by both players.[2]
4. Shuffle 60 cards and place them as a single draw deck beside the board.[2]
5. Place the year marker on the first space of the calendar track.[2]
6. Leave room for a discard pile and for cards to be placed in the three exchange card spaces.[2]
7. Choose a starting player and give them the windmill.[2]
**Fruitful Years**
1. **Seeding phase**: The fields are seeded with many resource tokens.[1]
2. **Card phase**: Each player is dealt 5 cards from the draw deck.[1]
3. **Action phase**: Players play one card each, then swap their hands; this is repeated until all hand cards are played.[1]
4. **Windmill phase**: The player with fewer stored resources gets the windmill.[1]
**Dry Years**
1. **Seeding phase**: The fields are seeded with few resource tokens.[1]
2. **Card phase**: Players pick up cards played for harvest in the previous round and replenish hands to 5; 3 exchange cards are also placed on the board.[1]
3. **Action phase**: Players play one card each until all hand cards are played, without swapping hands.[1]
4. **Windmill phase**: The player with fewer stored resources gets the $windmill$; exchange cards and all cards played for harvest this round are discarded.[1]
**Taking a Turn (Action Phase)**
1. Choose one card from your hand and use it immediately to perform one of the usual actions.[3]
2. To take a turn, you may choose to:
* Play the card face up in front of you to create a harvest column.[4]
* Swap a hand card for an exchange card on the board by placing your hand card on the exchange space and immediately playing the taken exchange card.[3]
* Play a card as an upgrade by sliding it face up under the board in the appropriate upgrade slot.[5]
* Play a card to brew beer or bake bread by placing it in your brewery or bakery, then spending the required resource tokens from your storage.[5]
3. If playing for harvest: Check the resource types in the harvest section of your harvest column; collect the required number of tokens from the fields and river and store them in your storage.[4]
4. If collecting more tokens than you can store: Choose which tokens to store and offer the rest to the other player, who may take any they have free storage for.[5]
**End of the Game**
1. The game ends after the 6th round or if the year marker moves to the space with the icon.[3][6]
2. Each player takes all sold cards (from beside the board, brewery, and bakery) and places them face up, separated by beer and bread.[6]
3. Add up the numbers on the coins of beer cards and bread cards to get a total score for each.[6]
4. Add any extra coins gained from upgrades to these totals.[6]
5. The lower of the two totals (beer or bread) is your final score.[6]
6. The player with the higher final score wins; ties are broken by the higher score in the other good, or by the player who does not have the windmill.[6]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 15 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

streamed — the gateway pushed at least one accumulated draft
watchdog
first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.
num_ctx · think posture
both are the CHILD's settings, not rulesage's, and no ask reply carries them — an answer never states which context window or think posture produced it. The live-seat line above reads them from the running child instead, where the gateway can answer for itself; it describes the child NOW, not this ask.
