How do I play?

Asked with: Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherersbg-4390-en-1e

### Setup
1. Place the starting tile (the back with a dark 'C') faceup in the middle of the table.[1]
2. Separate the regular land tiles from the menhir tiles by back.[1]
3. Shuffle the menhir tiles and set them aside facedown in a stack.[1]
4. Shuffle the regular tiles and place them facedown in multiple stacks so that each player can easily reach at least 1 stack.[1]
5. Place the scoreboard near the edge of the table, away from the starting tile.[1]
6. Each player gets 5 meeples and 3 huts in the color of their choice.[1]
7. Place the sixth meeple of each color in use on the '0' space of the scoreboard.[1]
### Gameplay
1. The youngest player takes the first turn, and play continues clockwise until the land tiles run out.[2]
2. The current player performs the following actions in order:
* Draw 1 land tile.[2]
* Place the tile so that it continues the landscape, connecting to 1 or more tiles.[2][3] The tile must continue each feature it is connected to.[3] In the rare event that you are unable to place the tile you drew, return that tile to the box and draw a new tile to replace it.[3]
* You may place 1 meeple or 1 hut on the tile you just placed,[2][3] provided the piece is placed on a feature without another similar piece (meeple or hut).[3]
* Specific meeple placements include:
* Place a meeple as a fisher on a river, but only if no other meeples are present on the same river.[2]
* Place a meeple on a river with a hut.[2]
* Place a meeple as a gatherer on a forest, but only if no other meeples are present on that forest.[4]
* Place a meeple on a grassland as a hunter, but only if no other hunters are present on that grassland.[5]
* Specific hut placements include:
* Place a hut on either a river or a lake on the tile you just placed, but only if no other huts are present on the same river system.[2]
* Huts can be placed on a river where a meeple is already present.[2]
* If you place a tile that completes a forest containing 1 or more menhirs, you take an extra turn in which you draw and place a menhir tile.[4][5] You cannot take multiple extra turns in a row.[5]
3. Completed features (rivers and forests) are scored at the end of each turn in which 1 or more features are completed.[5] Points are scored by the player whose meeple occupies a given feature.[5] If multiple meeples are present on a single connected feature, the player with the most meeples on the feature scores points.[5] In the event of a tie, all players tied for the most score the full points from the completed feature.[5] After scoring, all meeples on completed features are returned to their owners' supplies.[5]
4. When you place a tile with an immediate action, you must immediately resolve the corresponding action.[6]
### Ending the Game and Final Scoring
1. The game ends at the end of the turn when the last land tile (not menhir tile) is placed.[7]
2. Resolve the following steps:
* Leave all huts and hunters on tiles.[7]
* Remove all other meeples from tiles.[7]
* No points are scored for incomplete forests and rivers.[7]
* The player with the most huts on each river system scores 1 point for each fish shown in that river system; if multiple players are tied for the most huts, each tied player scores the full points.[7]
3. The player with the most points wins the game.[2]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 11 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.

this game registers NO errata cards (edition 574), so "no registered errata card matched" above could never have matched one

Errata scope: the gate above matched this ruling's own edition only. When an ask also reads an expansion, that expansion's own registered errata cards stay outside the match — a stated phase-1 limitation, not a failed lookup.
