How do I play?

Asked with: Last Willbg-97842-en-1e

The game is played in rounds of at most 7 rounds.[1] Each round consists of 5 phases: Setup, Planning, Errands, Actions, and End of Round.[1]
**Setup**
1. Place two companion wild cards near the card offering board.[2]
2. Leave the Last Will cards in the box (for the first game).[2]
3. Create a bank near the center of the table for money, companion tokens, property value markers, and player board extensions.[2]
4. Create space for discard piles for each type of card.[2]
and 5. Each player chooses a color and takes a player board, 1 grey action counter (placed on the zero space), 2 errand boy figures, and 1 planning marker in that color.[2]
6. All players start with the same amount of money (70 pounds for the first game).[2]
7. Each player draws 3 cards from the helpers and expenses deck and 3 from the properties deck.[2]
8. Deal one card onto each space of the card offering board according to the indicated icons.[1]
9. The starting player marker goes to the player who paid for something most recently.[2]
**Planning Phase**
1. Beginning with the starting player and moving clockwise, each player places their planning marker on an hourglass space on the planning board.[3]
2. This choice determines the number of cards drawn, the number of errand boys, the number of actions, and the turn order for the remainder of the round.[3]
3. Immediately after declaring the plan, the player draws the indicated number of cards from the regular decks (not from the card offering board or special decks).[3]
4. In the first round only, players choose 2 cards from their hand to keep and discard the rest face-down.[1][2]
**Errand Phase**
1. Players take turns beginning with the player whose plan is farthest to the left and proceeding in the order determined by the planning board.[4]
2. Players place one errand boy figure on an unoccupied errand opportunity and immediately perform that errand.[4]
3. If a player's plan allows, they take a second turn to place a second errand boy.[4]
**Action Phase**
1. Players use actions to play cards:
* **Black-bordered cards:** To play, you must have an open space on your player board (if not, you may discard a previously played black-bordered card to make space, which uses no actions).[5] Laying a black-bordered card always uses at least one action.[5] You must also pay the cost indicated in the upper left corner.[5] Once on the board, cards can be activated once per round by sliding them down to reveal the check-mark symbol.[5]
* **White-bordered cards:** These are used once and discarded.[6] To play, move your action counter to indicate the number of actions used and spend the number of pounds indicated in the coin symbol(s).[6] If playing with companion cards, use the indicated number of actions and spend the pounds indicated on the top-most coin plus the amount indicated on the coin corresponding to that type of companion.[7]
* **Slate-bordered cards:** These are used in conjunction with other cards.[6] To add a companion to a black-bordered card, discard a corresponding slate-bordered card, use one action, and place a token of the corresponding color on the space.[8]
2. Cards can be activated during the action phase, even if they were played this round.[5] Some activations require actions, while others do not.[5]
**Goal**
The goal is to spend all your money as fast as possible in accordance with the last will.[1]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 24 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.

both are the CHILD's settings, not rulesage's, and no ask reply carries them — an answer never states which context window or think posture produced it. The live-seat line above reads them from the running child instead, where the gateway can answer for itself; it describes the child NOW, not this ask.

this game registers NO errata cards (edition 564), so "no registered errata card matched" above could never have matched one

Errata scope: the gate above matched this ruling's own edition only. When an ask also reads an expansion, that expansion's own registered errata cards stay outside the match — a stated phase-1 limitation, not a failed lookup.
