How do I play?

Answered counted as answered

Asked with: The Grizzledbg-171668-en-1e

### Setup
1. Each player chooses a Grizzled card, Good Luck Charm side up.[1]
2. Each player receives 3 Support tiles: 1 specific tile, 1 specific tile, and 1 tile randomly drawn from the rest (note: for 2 or 3 players, the first two specific tiles are not used).[1]
3. 25 cards are placed face down on top of the Peace card to form the Trials pile.[1]
4. The remaining 3 and 34 cards are placed face down on the Monument card to form the group's Reserve of Morale.[1]
5. Speech tokens are placed between the card piles based on player count: 5 tokens for 2 or 3 players, 4 tokens for 4 players, and 3 tokens for 5 players.[1]
6. The Mission Leader token is given to the hairiest player.[1]
### Playing the Mission
1. Starting with the Mission Leader, players take turns going clockwise for as long as the Mission continues.[2]
2. If a player has not yet withdrawn, they choose one of the following actions on their turn:[2]
* **Play a Trials card from their hand**: If the card is a Threat, it is added to No Man’s Land in the middle of the table; if it is a Hard Knock, it is assigned to the player and takes effect immediately.[2] If a Threat card with a Trap symbol is played, the player must draw another card from the Trials pile and immediately play it (any subsequent Trap revealed is ignored).[3]
* **Use a Good Luck Charm**: The player discards one card from No Man’s Land that bears the same type of Threat as their Good Luck Charm, and their Grizzled card is then flipped over.[2]
* **Make a Speech**: If a player has a Speech token, they choose a Threat and announce it; all other players (who have not withdrawn) may discard a single card from their hand containing that Threat.[2] The Speech token is then removed from the game.[2]
* **Withdraw and play a Support tile**: The player chooses to no longer take part in the Mission and can no longer take actions.[2] They secretly choose one of their remaining Support tiles and place it face-down on their Grizzled card (if they have no Support tiles left, they simply withdraw).[2] While withdrawn, all Hard Knocks they possess have no effect for the current mission.[2]
### End of the Mission
The Mission ends in one of two ways:[3]
1. **Success**: All players have withdrawn.[3]
2. **Failure**: 3 identical Threats are present in No Man’s Land, including the Phobias and Traumas of non-withdrawn players.[3] In this case, No Man’s Land cards are shuffled into the Trials pile.[3]
### Support and Resolution
1. Once the Mission is over, players reveal the Support tiles they played on their Grizzled cards and give them to the chosen player.[4]
2. If the mission was a failure, only tiles from players who had already withdrawn are taken into account; if a player received more Support than any others, they may only discard a single Hard Knock card.[4]
3. If one player receives more Support than any others, that player can either discard 2 Hard Knock cards affecting their character or recover their Good Luck Charm.[4]
4. In the event of a tie, the effects of the Support cancel each other out and no one gets support.[4]
5. Players keep any Support tiles they have received.[4]
6. If a player has 4 or more Hard Knocks, the group fails and the game ends immediately.[4]
### Victory Condition
The Armistice is signed, and the players win, when the Trials pile is exhausted, the Peace card is visible, and players no longer have any cards in their hands.[4]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 13 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

watchdog
first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.
num_ctx · think posture
both are the CHILD's settings, not rulesage's, and no ask reply carries them — an answer never states which context window or think posture produced it. The live-seat line above reads them from the running child instead, where the gateway can answer for itself; it describes the child NOW, not this ask.

this game registers NO errata cards (edition 551), so "no registered errata card matched" above could never have matched one

Errata scope: the gate above matched this ruling's own edition only. When an ask also reads an expansion, that expansion's own registered errata cards stay outside the match — a stated phase-1 limitation, not a failed lookup.
